Thaiventure Chronicles: Part One
This newly adopted mentality so far has birthed a life changing sense of the world and itch for travel and culture I surely will not be able to satiate.
Im currently writing this first blog entry in a small barista shop around the corner from our hotel on the island of Koh Tao. I chose to write this blog in hopes of enforcing the need to take in as many details as possible from my experiences on the Thai tour.
It’s midday here so the pace is quite slow as an overcast sky showers a consistent mist. I welcome the weather as it brings a cool breeze and tame temperament to the people however, it’s hardly like this. When the sun goes down this little island becomes a completely different animal with bars fusing together at the beach bringing everyone closer with fire shows and a bustling night life.
So far we’ve started the tour strong with 2 long nights in Bangkok followed by a lengthy boat ride to Koh Tao. I’ve participated in a gruelling muai Thai class, a sensational boat tour of the island that provided me my first snorkelling experience and a hike to the top of the island bringing a surreal view of the surrounding horizon.
I promised myself at the beginning of the trip that I will not surrender to any sensations of fear that ensuing encounters will bring and will choose to fight not flee in any instance to make sure I experience as much as possible. I am clearly not alone in this thought as one of the tour guides has written in Thai simply “why not” on his shoulder putting a hefty burden on him demanding him to leave no stone unturned.
This newly adopted mentality so far has birthed a life changing sense of the world and itch for travel and culture I surely will not be able to satiate. Im in love with the overwhelming acceptance of the locals and unbelievable food. I can now truly understand how people when visiting here decide to extend their stay indefinitely due to the unparalleled beauty of the culture.
