Western Islands & Jungle Tour Part One: Testimonials From an LBW Traveller

Western Islands & Jungle Tour Part One: Testimonials From an LBW Traveller

Getting to Thailand can be a long and exhausting journey.

It took me a good 20 hours of travel with three plane rides and an amusing taxi experience, followed by an hour and a half ferry ride to Railay beach. Crazy to think that after stepping off the long tail boat into the warm turquoise waters, all the travel seemed to melt away and I was awestruck with Railay’s beautiful sand beaches and breathtaking cliffs.

The following are what I would say are the three most important tips for visiting Railay.

Number One: avoid water or food rinsed with water like leafy greens and vegetables, also anything with eggs. Eating the fruit and food from the marts like pretzels seem to be the safest for this particular location. Some people have been eating all the delicious Thai food they can get their hands on and are fine but my sensitive American stomach is sticking to pretzels until we reach Koh Phi Phi.

Number Two: sunscreen and bug spray are necessities and over priced here. Bring your own and I would highly recommend trying essential oil bug spray since I’m one of the few people without a single bug bite and usually they love me.

Number Three: this island has amazing hikes and caves so planning accordingly with proper shoes and a headlamp or flashlight will make those experiences easier and more fulfilling.

My name is Molly Colyer and I am a 24 year old originally from Washington. I work as a dental hygienist and travel in my free time. I have lived in Southern California and Hawaii and find that I prefer to live my life in a bikini. My favorite activities are hiking, free diving and swimming with sharks. I was bitten by the travel bug about a year ago and am looking forward to my first trip to Thailand with LBW. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as I know I am going to.
