Visiting Cusco & Machu Picchu

Now the moment you have all been waiting for: Cusco and Machu Picchu!!

We started off Cusco with a walking tour of the city. It didn't take long for us to notice the change in elevation! we walked up a set of stairs for a view of the city; the climb nearly killed us, but the view was definitely worth it! Other highlights of the tour were: trying alpaca meat, seeing some ruins and visiting a mini Christ redeemer that overlooks the city.

Next up was volunteering at an after school program in a small town by Cusco. This was an absolutely amazing and humbling experience. The kids were so excited to make Christmas cards with us. After making the cards, we went around the town singing Christmas carols. The smiles on the faces of the children when giving the cards to their parents was absolutely priceless.

The Sacred Valley tour was a full-day excursion that was absolutely breathtaking. We went to see 3 different Incan ruin sites. We had a tour guide that explained the history of the ruins to us.

Shopping in Cusco is an absolute must! There are tons of Peruvian markets with every Alpaca thing you can possibly imagine. This is most certainly the best selection and best prices!

The last, but in no way the least of our excursions, is of course Machu Picchu! It took a long train ride and a short but very curvy bus ride to get us there but it was worth it all. Machu Picchu blew all of our expectations out of the water. We had an amazing guide who took as around the ruins, explaining everything about them to us in astounding detail. These people were centuries ahead of their time. After walking through the city and learning about it we went up to the watch tower and snapped some amazing pictures. It isn't hard to see why this is one of the Wonders of The World. Wow. Just Wow.
