The Monkey Life in Bali
Oh my goodness! It has already been five amaaazing days in Bali and I finally have some time (and a good wifi connection!) to settle down and write my first blog post! I am sitting in a beautiful bar, on the most amazing couches, listening to an awesome band- life really doesn't get any better than this. The time seems to all blur together because we are always doing something! To be honest, most of the time I don't even know what day it is! I'll do my best though to recap the past few days for you!
I came to Bali dreaming of the beach, and have not been disappointed! We have spent nearly every day on the beach, or at least a pool. We started the trip off in Kuta with a beach day and some surf lessons- which most of the group was really good at! I struggled with the saltwater in the eyes a lot though and might have quit early but ended up with way less battle wounds than the rest of the group though haha so small victories. We ended the day off with a few too many Bingtangs and a wild night of dancing- and just like that the group becomes just like family.
We did more beach bummin' on day 2, and may have even got caught in a rainstorm, but there were no complaints about having a chance to cool down. Saying that we are usually all sweaty messes is an understatement, but still loving every minute of it! We ended the day at Uluwatu temple watching a traditional Balinese Kecak Fire dance which was amazing (I'm going to need to look up some synonyms for amazing soon...) and the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. The view was breathtaking. I'll let the pictures do the rest.
Our next day we headed to Ubud, and was spent visiting Tirta Empul temple which is a Hindu Balinese water temple. We had a guide explain the history of the temple and the ritual we would get to partake in. It involved an offering, prayers, and showering in the holy water springs. It was very cool to be able to go through the process. I forgot to bring my camera in for this one though so unfortunately I don't have the pictures to go with it. After that we headed to monkey forest which everyone was so excited for! We were all a bit nervous about the though of giant monkeys jumping on you, and I, of course, had the biggest one jump on me, but everyone got a good laugh out of it and some good pictures! We ended the day with dinner at a super fancy restaurant and called it a night pretty early for those of us doing the optional cycling trip the next day.
The cycling trip today was optional but very reasonably priced- and the buffet at the end definitely made it worth it haha. The views on the cycling trip were gorgeous- the trails were a bit tricky and a few of us had some issues staying on the paths or numb hands from braking so hard haha but everyone agreed it was well worth the trip. After an amazing meal we jumped onto the giant mattresses poolside, and lounged for the afternoon before heading back to the hotel. The nearby markets let us get our shopping on for a while before heading out for dinner, which brings me to right now.
Basically, to sum it all up- the weather is great, the people are even better, and the vibes are good. Bali is turning out to be everything we could've wanted it to be, and more, and it's still only the beginning.
