Let's Talk Gili
Let's talk about the Gili's! Island life at its finest, and the beach is never more than a minute away- could life be any more perfect!? Gili air was a dream. The weather was great, well maybe a little too hot even - for a Canadian anyways haha, the laid back island feel was exactly what we needed. We arrived on Canada day so of course we had to make it a special occasion - beer pong tournament style. Our guide Matty took the title, hey he has two years of drinking in Thailand under his belt, and Mykala but Rahill and I took second so I won't complain too much.
The next day was full of optional activities, snorkeling, cooking classes, and a cycling trip around the island. The snorkeling was so much fun! It was my first time and I really enjoyed it! We saw so many fish! No turtles (this time anyways) though. Then a few of us went to the cooking class and made some amazing meals! We made an appetizer of fried tempeh in a peanut dipping sauce, it was the first time I've ever really liked tempeh haha. Our main course was mie goreng (fried noodles) which turned out great, and a dessert which I have no idea what they're called but they're basically minty gum balls with palm sugar in them rolled in coconut... They were interesting. We missed out on the beginning of the cycling trip, which turned out to be a good thing, apparently it was a brutal ride in some serious sand, and just got to join them at the famous Gili swing. Once again, Indonesia left us awestruck at another sunset.
The next day we had the option to do some scuba diving but I opted out and had a chill beach day! Our hotel also had some really nice hammocks on the porches which were the perfect way to spend the rest of the day. We had an amazing dinner ocean side that night, it was a bbq place and it was so good! We ended our nights in Gili Air in the cutest little upstairs theatre room at our cottages watching finding nemo and the jungle book on giant bean bag chairs! We were ready to leave Gili Air super chilled out and ready to party it up in Gili T!
Gili T was a bit chaotic this time around because of Ramadan. We had a lot of issues with not enough equipment or stuff being closed, our hotel power went off a lot as well, but we tried to make the best of it! The island was so busy but it had great food and a better nightlife than Gili air. We cycled around the island, did more snorkeling( turtles were seen!) and a lot more drinking! The glass bottom boat was cool but some serious hangovers made it a shorter trip than originally planned. The shot bar kept us busy during the evenings but the party scene wasn't even close to the party scene in Kuta! So we were excited to get back for our last night! We had an amazing rooftop dinner at sunset! And partied the night away! We are spending the day at the water park tomorrow and starting to say goodbye to the group- tears will be shed! It's crazy that three weeks ago we were just a bunch of strangers!
