Phuket can be described as a beachy Bangkok. There is chaos down every main road with street vendors, bars, food, drinks, the list goes on.
Getting to Phuket was exciting because we have been island living for the past three weeks and haven't been in the city. As soon as our bags were sorted we headed to Jungceylon shopping centre, the first mall I've been to in ages! Was great to see western brands (although not great to see western prices). We also ate every bit of fast food possible. I had my first (ever) Burger King, McDonald's, and Starbucks. Had a little stroll to Patong Beach, which was surprisingly gorgeous!! Clear sand and heaps of people. That evening we went bowling in the mall. It was awesome to do something from back home. I did learn that I am a ridiculously terrible bowler though, and bowled gutter balls seven times in one game...
Our second Phuket day was really cultural and we got to actually see some of the history of the city. On our island tour we stopped at a lovely view point of two of the beaches, and the views are so gorgeous they never get old. We then drove up to Big Buddha, the biggest in Thailand. It was incredible to see this massive statue. We also saw the monks who pray there, and we're blessed and received bracelets to add to our bracelet collection. Our last tour stop was of a gorgeous three story temple. While we were there they set off firecrackers to wake up the spirits (not sure how I felt about that) however I could sit in the temples all day and look at the detail and colour.
That evening we went to an amazing club, the White Room. It was a proper club, the music was great, and the cocktails were delicious. It was a great evening to dance away. Was great to spend a few days in the city but am keen to relax at the homestay.
