Costa Rica Blogger: Ian Western!

Hola amigos! My name is Ian Western and I’m pumped to begin blogging for Life Before Work as I embark on the Costa Rica Explorer tour. Vamos!

A little about myself: I grew up in New Jersey, attended Wake Forest University, and currently live in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina (near Wilmington, aka the Port City). After college, I interned as part of the Red Bull motorsports team, worked in sales consulting at a fortune 500 tech giant, and held a few more jobs - none of which I have held for more than 2 years. I recently left my job at a boutique digital advertising agency and now finally have the freedom to travel for an extended period of time. It's time to do some soul searching - and I'm hoping that my travels help me decide what profession to focus on when I return home.

My travels begin with a surf tour in northern Puerto Sandino, Nicaragua. Afterwards, I will travel South to Tamarindo to link up with the LBW Costa Rica Explorer Tour. Following LBW, I’ll make my way down to Puerto Viejo and Bocas Del Torro in Panama, and then fly back to San Jose, Costa Rica to volunteer for 3 weeks. Central America’s climate, surf, terrain, and culture had great appeal to me - and I hope to significantly improve my Spanish during my 2 months abroad.

The LBW Costa Rica Explorer tour seemed to combine a lot of my travel goals into a unified experience. I chose to tour with LBW because it seemed to combine a budget style of travel with adrenaline fueled & exploratory experiences. I also imagine the mood to party will strike me at least a few times during my time abroad, and the LBW tour seemed to have a solid balance of social activities and adventure tourism.

I am eager with anticipation to begin my travels, excited to meet the tour group, and positive that this experience will be life changing. Cheers, and Happy Holidays!
