An Introduction to Brazil

After imagining a cheap third world old broken down hostel, it was certainly a breathe of fresh air arriving at a colourful and welcoming hostel, Bonita. The afternoon kicked off with greetings from our friendly tour guides Mike and Leo, which soon lead to the group introductions and icebreakers – we certainly could pick a few party animals in the group.

After an hour of settling into our hostel we left to go lay on the sand, soak in the sun, and sip on some icy cold Caiparinhas on Ipanema Beach. It was great feeling to just chill and converse with people you don’t know from a bar of soap though feel completely comfortable with one another. As the sun began to set, we decided to head back to our hostel and prepare for our night in Lapa! We played the infamous game of ‘Kings Cup,’ to not only get us wasted but for a great source of entertainment. The night began with sore abdominals from the laughs at our drinking table which carried on till we departed (I’m almost certain I’ll have a six pack by the end of this trip – minus the workout). Our group arrived at the well-known Rio Scenerio, though most of us speak totally English, the club just proved how universal music is. We didn’t understand the words, the energy around us spoke for itself. The vibes from the Brazilian people on the dance floor certainly had an element like no other. Most certainly we have to give props to our Brazilian local tour guide, Leo, for making the club dance in unison to his favourite anthems and making the club get up out of their comfort zone and party!
